PhD dissertation defence of 7/11/2008

Dear friend,

Yes, I'm a doctor now: dr. Joseph Roevens...
Ah: It feels good.
I invested about 11 years in completing the project. I changed topics 3 times: Chaos Theory, then 'Flow' (now a hot topic in the USA), & finally "Systemic Constellations Work in Organizations", still an innovative consulting technique.
The public defense on November 7 at the University of Tilburg went very well, beyond my wildest expectations. I rehearsed like an actor for a key performance. I learned the protocol, such as answering each question with "Highly esteemed opponent, thank you for a very interesting question in which you want me to ...." and benefitted from the carefully nurtured East Coast American accent.
The audience (+-75) was fantastic, too! (I guess this is something one always says when things go right...): a mix of relatives, aunts & uncles, colleagues, the dean & vice-dean of our University, local friends, opponents of my work, and even some friends from abroad.
Most people enjoyed it - even if some didn't understand it. Everything was filmed by the kids of our Academy of Media, so soon you may find it on YouTube or Google video.

Right now I experience "baby blues"... Life has lost all meaning after 11 years of focus ...
Well, no. But I'm actually interested in finding out what the next steps will be. And in February our University's NHTV Expertise Series brings out the commercial edition, ISBN 9789051796223. The academic version can be downloaded for free from the University of Tilburg repository.

Hope life treats you well & we will meet again soon !!
